Myth #6  -  "A Long-Term Care Plan only pays for nursing home care"

Fact:  That may have been true 30 years ago — it isn’t today.  Modern LTC planning is built around one goal: helping people receive care where they want it — usually at home.

What LTC Plans Actually Cover Today:  Most care doesn’t happen in nursing homes, as over 80% of all long-term care is provided at home or in the community, often by unpaid family members.  Today's LTC plans now cover home care, assisted living, adult day care, care coordination, caregiver training, respite care, and memory care — not just nursing homes.

Examples of services covered under most modern LTC plans:

✔  Home health aides & personal care
✔  Assisted living & memory care residences
✔  Adult day care & community care centers
✔  Care coordination and care management
✔  Respite care for family caregivers
✔  Hospice care and end-of-life support
✔  Bed reservation if hospitalized while in a facility
✔  Home modifications (ramps, lifts, safety upgrades)

Why this matters:  Planning isn’t about “putting someone in a home.” It’s about keeping control — of where care happens, who provides it, and how long independence can be maintained at home.  A nursing home is the last stop, not the starting point.
